A combination of the creative nature of surfing with the perseverance and discipline of competitive running has been Marcelo’s life. As a Track & Field Olympic hopeful, Marcelo landed in San Diego in 1989 after spending his youth in Argentina (where he was borne), Rio (where he moved as a teenager) and Barcelona (in his early 20s). His Olympic dreams fell short after not classifying to the 1992 games. The same passion and commitment he showed for running was soon replaced for surfing and its industry.
As Creative Director for Reef for 10 years (1999 – 2009), Marcelo Bengoechea led the company's Global Marketing Brand Communications and helped position Reef as one of the most recognizable brands in the Action Sports industry.
In April 2010, following his heart and entrepreneurial spirit, Marcelo co-founded Seshday.com, an innovative e-commerce platform aimed at the youth culture/action sports demographic. Two years after it’s launch, Marcelo sold Seshday.com to LeftLane Sports in April 2012.
In August 2013, Marcelo took over the CEO role at SUPERbrand, an up and coming surfboard and apparel manufacturer based in Carlsbad.
